Day One: Jumping in the Deep End by Immersing Ourselves in the Mobi and CPS Clickers

The following reflects our general itinerary on Wednesday January 12, 2011.

A. The Mobi Experience

1. From BPS Connect we'll look at some general pathways made available courtesy of BPS OIIT.

Mobi Hardware Main Menu

Interwrite Workspace Toolbars

followed by

Mobi Training Resources

2. Knee Surgery site which allows us to explore the pen option (labeling x-ray of the knee) and how we can toggle between the workspace menu and mouse option.

Also a chance to demonstrate the highlight and text option

3. Go to a website that allows us to explore linear inequalities

Again, a chance to demonstrate the pen option and transition into options including:

Blank page
Grid page
Timer
Gallery

4. We can look at the following options that can be selected from the icon at the top of our screen:

Curtain
Spotlight
Page sorter (at this point, we should have a few to toggle among)

Freehand text

and last but not least Sims - the function machine under the math menu

B. The CPS Experience

1. Using a sample database we'll try out mixed discipline questions in a teacher-directed format and view some of the available reports that are generated.

2. Asking a verbal question on the spot "how well do you feel you understand the lesson thus far on a scale of 1 to 4?"

3. Fast grade using a multiple-choice assessment again, based on mixed discipline questions that allows us to examine a student-directed assessment.

Software You Need to Download Before You Receive Your Devices

Dear Colleagues,

Although the devices you receive come with hard copies (CDs) for the installation of needed software, they are not the most up-to-date versions available. It is best to go directly to the vendors website and download the following programs and install them on your L4L laptop.

NOTE:

You should should down Parallels (the Windows operating system) before installation of the following media, otherwise there tend to be issues with compatability.

For those of you worried about valuable space being taken up on your hard drive, don't be. All three software packages take up approximately 1.5 Gigabytes of space which is available on most of your computers.

Steps for downloading software:

1. Go to the following website http://www.einstruction.com/support/downloads

Download the following software packages in the order prescribed:

A. Workspace™ v5.59MAC SOFTWARE

Workspace™ is a next generation teaching program for the digital classroom. When used in concert with a MobiTM, Board, Pad, Panel or ResponseTM System, Workspace™ provides the means to interact with any form of digital content and truly connect with your students.

B. Workspace™ Content v3.10.11MAC SOFTWARE

This installer includes the Workspace™ Content and sample Workspace™ lessons. Included in this content are thousands of learning objects for language arts, math, science, social studies and art.

C. CPS Software v2.8MAC SOFTWARE

Please Note!!!

Once you download the software for the CPS software, you will see two installation packages:
CPS
CPS & PPT
Only install the CPS package, not the CPS&PPT package

Once you have navigated this process, you will be ready to connect your devices.
